La Fête du Muguet

May 1st isn’t just another spring day in France—it’s La Fête du Muguet, a charming tradition where people give sprigs of lily of the valley to loved ones as a symbol of luck and happiness.

The custom began in 1560, when King Charles IX received a bouquet of muguet and decided to share the gesture with the ladies of his court each spring. Today, the tradition lives on, with flower stalls popping up across the country and bouquets sold tax-free for one day only.

Lily of the valley marks the joy of spring and the promise of good things to come. A simple bloom, a sweet gesture.
